Three area businesses are planning a run and walk to benefit the Tribute to Veterans Memorial.SSM Heath Physical Therapy, K4 Fitness and Hapkido Plus are organizing the event, which is scheduled for June 24 in Warrenton.“It’s called the Give Back 5K run and walk,” said Amy Vacek of SSM Health Physical Therapy. “It’s giving back to those who gave all.”All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Tribute to Veterans Memorial. The groundbreaking for the memorial is expected to take place this fall.Run and walk organizers are looking for sponsors, vendors, volunteers, participants and donors. The route is still being defined but will likely start and end at K4 Performance Complex at the former outlet mall.“We are excited to create a fun, active event that will give back to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and show respect for all military,” said Vacek. “At SSM Health Physical Therapy, we have core values of integrity and community and always look for ways to get involved and give back to the community.”Vacek has a personal and community connection to the project.“My grandfather was MIA (missing in action) in Korea as a fighter pilot, and I am a member of the Tribute to Veterans Memorial committee,” she said. “Master (Jeremiah) Koch, owner of Hapkido Plus, K4 Fitness, shares these same values of respect, community and integrity, so that’s why we want to do the event for the Tribute to Veterans Memorial.”The cost is $25 per person for early registration and $30 per person starting June 9.Runners and walkers can pick up race packets from 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, June 23, at K4 Fitness and Hapkido Plus at 402 Progress Parkway in Warrenton.
