Ribbon cut on new bridge at Truxton exit

Local officials and representatives from the Missouri Department of Transportation were on hand Wednesday, Nov. 12, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new bridge at the Truxton exit over I-70.

The $9.7 million project, which replaced an older bridge originally built in 1961, is the first interchange project completed as part of the ongoing I-70 widening project, according to MoDOT Northeast District Engineer Kevin James.

James said the project, which was completed by Emery Sapp & Sons, was completed ahead of schedule. James said the new bridge is 56 feet wide, with 12-foot lanes and 10-foot shoulders. The old bridge will be demolished in December, James said.

Improve I-70 Program Director Eric Kopinski said that when officials with MoDOT began looking at the entire I-70 corridor, they decided they needed to get to this bridge replacement sooner rather than later due to the poor condition of the existing bridge. The new bridge connects Highways A and B over I-70.

Boonslick Regional Planning Commission Executive Director Teresa Lee said as a daily commuter over the old bridge for the past 25 years, she was excited for everything the bridge would do for local commuters and businesses.

According to James, over 4,000 vehicles per day will traverse the new bridge.
