To honor and recognize the efforts of Rep. Spencer of Wentzville for his work this year on education and children’s issues, the Speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives, Tim Jones, awarded him the Freshman Legislator of the Year award. “I firmly believe actions speak louder than words and as an elected official, those actions are crucial to the well-being of our constituents. I commend Rep. Spencer on his actions regarding education showing firsthand that their actions demonstrate leadership for the people of his district,” said Jones. Through his role as a member of the House Committee on Elementary and Secondary Education, Rep. Spencer promoted legislation that would protect the privacy of students throughout the state and various practices that would enhance their ability to learn and achieve success. Rep. Spencer sponsored House bills and amendments to change various state laws ranging from issues on education, agriculture, and emergency personnel. Rep. Spencer also served on the House Education Appropriations, Urban Affairs, Ways and Means, and Corrections committees. “I believe we accomplished a lot this year, both in committee and in the House of Representatives,” said Spencer. “I look forward to next year’s legislative session in January 2015.”
