A man carrying a blonde wig and a stolen cellphone when he was stopped by Warrenton police is now in jail on a felony theft charge.Jesse R. Whited, 24, Kansas City, was stopped March 19 because he matched the description of the suspect in the theft of a Samsung Galaxy S8 cellphone, according to an arrest report. The stolen phone was valued at $850.Whited is charged with stealing valued at $750 or more, a class D felony punishable by a fine or prison sentence.The victim of the theft told police a customer at a business on North Highway 47, who had blonde hair and was wearing gray sweatpants and sweatshirt, had asked to use her cellphone to call a ride.The victim told police she went to the bathroom and left the phone unattended, and when she returned the customer and her phone were gone.About 20 minutes later, an officer located a matching suspect, later identified as Whited, walking west on the North Outer Road near Walmart.Whited, who has red hair, reportedly had a blonde wig in his possession and had the stolen phone hanging out of his pocket. The screen of the phone had several text messages requesting the phone be returned, according to police.Whited allegedly provided multiple false names to police, before being identified by his mother through a phone call.Whited had an arraignment scheduled for March 28 in Warren County Circuit Court.
