Renovations proceeding at Warren County Courthouse

Renovations on two courtrooms at the Warren County Courthouse are proceeding, and work on the Division I courtroom is now complete, according to Chris Albright with A. Eilers Construction.

The Warren County Commissioners awarded the contract to A. Eilers Construction for $74,880 and Presiding Commissioner Joe Gildehaus said he was pleased with their progress.

The renovations include new carpets, paint as well as new counters for court clerks.

“Everything is brand new,” said Gildehaus.

The project was originally supposed to start in February but Gildehaus said they wanted to give contractors some extra time to work given the age of the building.

“We gave them extra time with remodeling since you never know what you’ll get,” said Gildehaus.

He continued saying while the process went smoothly with the Division I courtroom, they could encounter more unknown issues with the Division II courtroom.

“This floor came up easy, the other one may come up hard,” said Gildehaus.

Crews with A. Eilers began work on the Division II courtroom on March 31 and are expected to complete the project some time in mid-April.

When the bid was awarded it was always planned to do one courtroom at a time to avoid delays with court proceedings.

The renovations were actually planned two years ago, but the commission held off on any repairs until renovations to the courthouse’s roof were completed in 2023.

Those renovations were completed through a $310,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Public Safety, which the county matched with capital improvement funds.

The Record had previously reported that the old roof, which was built 26 years ago, was known to leak during heavy rains, disrupting court proceedings.
