The purple ribbons and signs around Warrenton are inviting residents to come to Relay for Life this Friday evening.The night will be spent honoring, celebrating and supporting those who have fought — and those who continue to fight — cancer.“Colorful Rays of Hope” is the theme for this year’s relay event, which starts at 6 p.m. Friday, June 6, and goes until 1 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Black Hawk Middle School in Warrenton.Event coordinator Kanna Rook says that so far 18 teams have signed up to participate, and that $31,000 has been donated, with the goal of reaching 23 teams, 200 participants and $60,000.Money raised for the event and others across the country help fund cancer research and other support programs.The event begins with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m., followed by a survivor’s walk at 7 p.m.Other activities include:7:30 — Warrenton High School a capella choir performance8:30 — Fight Back ceremony and dance performance9:30 — Sgt. Carol Dieckman memorial lap10:30 — Luminaria ceremony11:00 — Zumba with Johnanna KiefferThroughout the evening, 13 teams with booths will offer games, activities, food and items for sale.Food offerings will include deep-fried Oreos, Mexican and barbecue fare, as well as hamburgers, hot dogs and steaks from the Warren County Cattlemen’s Association.Activities for children will include face painting, games, a duck pond and a petting zoo hosted by the Warrenton FFA.
