The 2018 Relay For Life of Warren County will be 4-11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Black Hawk Middle School, 302 Kuhl Ave., Warrenton.

Early setup and registration begins at 3 p.m.

Relay For Life events bring the community together to fight a common cause and support the mission of the American Cancer Society.

Warren County organizers have been hosting smaller events throughout the year. They have raised more than $18,665.02 toward its $55,000 goal, said Kate Bohn, American Cancer Society staff partner. Bohn is representing the Warren County event.

Donations help fund groundbreaking cancer research and patient-care programs.

This year’s Hero of Hope speaker is Stacey Saak, a cancer patient and survivor. The First Stacey Saak Riding for a Cure Poker Run and Bike Show was Saturday, Aug. 4. The event raised money for Relay For Life of Warren County.

Relay For Life will have food, games, entertainment and ceremonies to honor and celebrate those touched by cancer. Bohn said Simply A Princess characters will be there as well as Warrenton High School a cappella groups, Bubble Bus and more. Teams will have food sales and raffles.

The Banking on a Cure team is hosting two raffles. A gun raffle is open to those who are at least 18. They also are offering a spa basket raffle. The basket holds scented candles, oils, soaps, bath relaxers. Tickets for both baskets are available at First State Community Bank in Warrenton and Wright City and at Relay For Life at the Luminaria tent. For more information contact Penny McClain at pmcclain@FSCB.com.

Relay For Life will run its usual program. The opening ceremony to kick off the event by honoring everyone who’s been affected by cancer and everyone who has contributed to the success of the Relay fundraising season. The survivors and caregivers walk honors the strength and courage of caregivers and survivors.

Each light in the luminaria ceremony represents a loved one taken by cancer, who survived cancer and those being treated. The closing ceremony is a call to action to end cancer.
