Tim Schmidt had been named the new editor to replace Charlie Denn, who is transitioning to a part-time role at the newspaper. Derrick Forsythe has been hired to fill Schmidt's opening as sports editor. The Record has been under the guidance of Denn since May 2005. "I look forward to maintaining my relationship with the Warren County Record in this new role and I am excited about the opportunity to continue to write about the many interesting people and diverse events of our county," Denn said. Schmidt has been with The Record for over four years. During that time, Schmidt has earned numerous national and state awards for his work producing the sports section. Over the past two years, the sports section has placed in the top three for its circulation size in a contest held by the National Newspaper Association. Schmidt previously worked for two years for the Suburban Journals. He resides in Warrenton with his wife and 18-month-old daughter. Forsythe, who has since relocated to Warrenton from Paris, Mo., graduated in 2007 from Hannibal-LaGrange College with a degree in journalism, public relations and broadcasting. He is a 2003 graduate of Paris High School. Forsythe has owned and operated a popular sports Web site (NEMOsports.net) for the past five years, covering 25 schools in Northeast Missouri. In addition, he has worked as a freelance photographer and reporter for several weekly and daily newspapers across the state. Forsythe also previously worked at Twin Rivers Trading Post, an advertising publication in Paris, and the KHQA-TV sports department in Quincy, Ill.
