The Rebecca Boone Elementary PTO Color Fun Run/Walk will take place Saturday, Oct. 7, from 7 to 10 a.m. at the school, 836 S. St. in Warrenton.
At this event, walkers and runners will be doused in color.
“It’s a color powder that you throw on people. We put it in Squeeze Bottles to throw at you as you go by,” said Roseann Gerland, PTO secretary for Rebecca Boone Elementary.
Teachers, PTO members and National Honor Society students will be the ones operating the squeeze bottles.
Gerland said this is the school’s first color run. It was selected because it’s different from other PTO fundraisers.
“It’s a fun, family event,” she said. “We hope everyone has a great time.”
Participants can register one of three ways — online, in-person the evening before the race, and on race day.
To register online, visit ventbrite.com and search for Rebecca Boone color run.
To register in person the evening before the race, sign up and pick up race packets between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at the school. Race packets include a T-shirt, color powder, sunglasses and a wristband.
Gerland said packets also include instructions for removing the stain from clothing, or preserving it, should walkers and runners want a souvenir.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. on event day.
The event will offer a 5K run or a 3K walk or run. The race begins at 8 a.m. It begins and ends at Rebecca Boone Elementary.
Registration fees range from $20 for an individual to $120 for a seven-member family.
Money raised will benefit PTO initiatives.
“We’re going to use it for playground equipment, technology, field trips and clubs,” Gerland said.
The event is sponsored by 23 local businesses.
“We’ve had great interest in the run,” Gerland said. “We’ve had lots of support from local businesses.”
