The two-day Railroad Days celebration will take place this weekend, Oct. 14-15, in Truesdale and Warrenton.
This is the first year for the event celebrating the heritage of railroad communities in Warren County.
Activities are being organized by representatives from the Central Missouri Railroad Association, local businesses and the city of Truesdale.
There will be activities in the Rebecca Boone Elementary School gym in Truesdale and Dyer Park in Warrenton, as well as a property along the railroad tracks through Truesdale.
A model train show and swap meet will be open at the school during the two days, while a petting zoo, children’s area and vendors will be set up at the corner of Depot and Market streets in Truesdale. A scavenger hunt and other activities will be spread throughout all three locations.
Organizers also plan to have train cars parked in Truesdale south of the Coca-Cola plant for the weekend.
Organizers say they hope the event will grow into an annual attraction that will draw thousands of attendees.
The Warren County Commission joined in recognizing the significance of the event, signing a proclamation Tuesday that declared Oct. 8-15 as Railroad Week in Warren County.
The city of Truesdale has significant history with the railroad that runs east to west through central Warren County. Truesdale’s founder, William Truesdail, was a railroad contractor. He established the town, then made a deal with North Missouri Railroad to provide land for a depot there, making Truesdale a stop along the railroad’s long route west.
