Races set for county offices

Record Staff Writer The filing deadline for the August and November elections ended Tuesday evening with two more candidates adding their names to the ballot. The three-way race for county collector on the Republican ticket has now become a four-way contest. Pam Stoesz, New Florence, threw her hat into the ring and will face fellow New Florence resident Marianne Keith and Warrenton residents Linda Gant and Julie Schaumberg. Lauren Lynn Hopkins, Warrenton, will run against Michael Wright for Warren County associate circuit judge, Division 3. Wright was previously unopposed. There also are races this year for presiding commissioner, prosecuting attorney, circuit clerk, collector and treasurer. All candidates who filed for county offices are Republicans. The primary election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, with the general election to follow on Tuesday, Nov. 4. The following have filed for county offices. Presiding Commissioner — Incumbent Arden Engelage, Warrenton, and Roger Mauzy, Warrenton. Circuit Clerk — John Cornell, Warrenton, and incumbent Brenda Eggering, Warrenton. Prosecuting Attorney — Kelly King, Foristell, and Jennifer Bartlett, Marthasville. Bartlett was appointed prosecutor by Gov. Jay Nixon in January after former prosecutor Michael Wright was named an associate circuit court judge. King previously worked as a prosecutor in the office under Wright. Treasurer — Randy Lewis, Wright City, and Jeff Hoelscher are vying for the office of the treasurer. Current treasurer Gene Cornell is not seeking another term. Three candidates for county offices are unopposed — Barbara Daly, Warrenton, incumbent county clerk; Deborah L. Engemann for recorder of deeds; and Richard L. Scheibe, Warrenton, who is running for Warren County associate circuit judge, Division 2.

State Filings State Rep. Bart Korman, a Republican from High Hill, is seeking another term in the 42nd District. He will face Democratic candidate Rod Sturgeon, Montgomery City, in the November general election. The 42nd District includes nearly all of Warren and Montgomery counties, with the exception of small areas around Wellsville and Foristell. Incumbent state Rep. Bryan Spencer (R-Wentzville) will face Democratic candidate David Knisley, Wentzville, in November for the House seat in the 63rd District, which includes Wright City and nearly all of Innsbrook and northwestern St. Charles County. Ed Scheiffer (D-Troy) and Jeanie Riddle (R-Fulton) have filed for Senate District 10, a seat currently held by Jolie Justus (D-Kansas City). Justus is term-limited out.
