Candidate filing came to a close Tuesday, Jan. 20, with a few more residents deciding in the final week to seek aldermen or school board seats. Filing opened Dec. 16, 2008. The municipal election will be held April. 7. In Wright City, Ward 1 Alderman Dave Walter is facing opposition from Tom Black. In Ward 2, newcomers James Toothman, Jason Walker and Jamey Abercrombie will battle for a seat vacated by Richard Denkler. Four candidates will square off for two vacancies on the Wright City R-II School Board. Incumbent Alice Klem will face challengers Rhonda Butterfield, Doug Kraus and Laura May Marsh. Three have filed for two seats on the Warren County R-III School Board. Former board member Brian Meine, who lost in last April's election, will oppose Wilbert "Bill" Hawley and David Housewright. Four people will be vying for three aldermen seats in the city of Truesdale. Shalene Blackwood filed in the last week and will face incumbents Donald McGee and Adriane Null. Former Mayor Ray Gibson, who resigned in September, also has filed to run. Also in Truesdale, Interim Mayor Murray Bruer is seeking his first full term. He was voted into his current position by aldermen when Gibson unexpectedly resigned. Bruer had served as an alderman since April 2007. Warrenton and Marthasville don't have any contested races. In Warrenton, three current aldermen - Phil Tallo, Ward 1, Beth Kendall, Ward 2, and John Clark, Ward 3 - were the lone candidates to file again. In Marthasville, Mayor Dale Verges has filed to run for his first full term. He has served as the city's mayor since July 2007, following the death of then-Mayor Wendell Howard. Verges was elected to a one-year term last April. Also, Aldermen Jason Kober and Keith Hagedorn have filed to run again in the Southwest Ward and East Ward, respectively. Elsewhere, incumbents Steve Reese and Scott Determann face opposition from Rodney Haupt and Mike Kendall for two seats on the Warrenton Fire Protection District board. Two candidates - incumbent Robert Mallory and Keith Thompson - have filed for one available seat on the Wright City Fire Protection District Board.
