The Warren County R-III School District will hire a public relations specialist. With the growing use of technology and communication within the school setting, many districts have designated specific individuals for the task of keeping the community informed. The board approved the addition of a public relations specialist during its monthly meeting on Dec. 14, after gaining a better understanding of what the newly hired person’s responsibilities would be.Until now, employees in other capacities have been sharing the duties from posting to social media to web design to speaking at community events.“We want to make sure all the great things happening in the school district are getting out,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Aaron Jones. “We want to be able to get information out to parents in a timely manner.”The district continues to expand its efforts to connect with the community and be more transparent. Recently the board discussed starting a realtors luncheon to share information about the district with potential builders and homebuyers. This is a practice already successfully implemented by the Wright City R-II School District.“We want to keep working with our community from businesses to realtors to understanding their needs and having that open line of communication with resources,” said Jones. The district has relied strongly upon its website to keep residents informed and more recently begun to move toward the launch of a mobile app. Jones said the district would first like to establish clarity regarding who will be responsible for which tasks and what the role of the new public relations specialist will be.“Right now we’ve got some people in our teaching department and also secretaries trying to keep calendars up to date and events posted,” said Jones. “Within the organization one of the areas that is always a concern is communication. Hopefully this new position will help with having a more aggressive approach with making sure our communication is consistent and getting information out to our staff.”Warren County R-III School District logo
