During its monthly meeting on Nov. 10, the Warren County R-III School Board approved the addition of stipends for two extra-duty positions. The board discussed the need to compensate the vocal music director for time spent working specifically in collaboration with the theater director, as well as independently with students preparing them for their singing parts in the performance. It was determined that to stay in alignment with the middle school vocal music director, the high school director would receive a stipend of $1,500 for that extra-duty work.Furthermore, the addition of an assistant wrestling coach at the middle school level was approved to accommodate the growing program.“This year we have 32 students out for wrestling and with only one coach this leaves it nearly impossible to supervise all students and give them the proper instruction they need,” cited the proposal.“Adding another coach will allow us to have to have students supervised at meets while one coach goes to the rules meeting and works on pairings.”The board, on a 7-0 vote, approved the position with an extra-duty stipend of $1,800.“The positive is that we’re seeing growth in our activities,” said Superintendent Dr. Jim Chandler. “When you have that, we want them to make sure they have the sponsorship and adult supervision necessary. As you continue to grow, you have to add staff in those programs to accommodate the students.”Open SeatsAlso during its November meeting, the board announced that three of its positions will be up for re-election on April 4, 2017.The board positions of President Teresa Scott, Secretary Laurie Wenzel and Treasurer John Todd will be on the ballot.Filing will begin on Dec. 13, 2016, at 8 a.m. and will continue during the district’s regular business hours, which are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.Qualified individuals are encouraged to file.
