The management of the finances of the Warren County R-III School District will now be in new hands as the 2017-18 school year approaches.Tony Chance, who served as chief finance officer for four years, has accepted a similar role in the Hancock Place School District in St. Louis County. He has been replaced by Shelley Kinder, who joined R-III on July 1.“Tony had let us know about his opportunity back in April, so we started doing our search and had some strong qualified candidates,” said Assistant Superintendent Aaron Jones.Chance had been thoroughly engaged in the process leading up the current phase of the district’s $10 million bond project.Kinder said she’s excited to now take over that responsibility, relying on her previous experience in the area.“I’m excited about the construction that’s going on and have been heavily involved with that in the school districts,” said Kinder, who most recently worked as director of finance in the Maplewood School District. She began her career by serving 14 years in the Illinois school system. Kinder then spent four years at Brentwood, was the director of accounting in Wentzville and the chief financial officer in for the Washington School District.“She had an extensive amount of experience in both small and large school districts,” said Jones. “Her reputation comes with her. I’ve worked closely with some of the districts she’s been at and seen the results of her being able to improve the districts and keep them financially sound.”Jones says summers are typically busy for the central office staff, but the workload is intensified at the moment for the chief financial officer with the bond project constantly needing monetary evaluation.Kinder said she’s eager for the challenge and ready to settle into the district where she plans to retire.“This community is like where I grew up, and I think it’s going to start growing like Wentzville,” said Kinder. “I’ve always loved this field. I fell into it by accident, and I’ve never looked back.”
