R-III District close to bidding bond project

The Warren County R-III School District is preparing to enter the bid proposal phase of its $10 million bond project to renovate and make additions to each of its buildings. The board received an update on the process during its monthly meeting Sept. 8, learning that the project has been separated into two categories.“The big piece is they’ve really kind of narrowed everything down and are finalizing details for bids,” said Superintendent Jim Chandler.“We’ve got to make sure we have everything in place so we don’t have to go back and add things at a later date.“We want to make sure we do it right the first time.”Package No. 1, the School District Maintenance Facility Addition, will include exclusively the work at that location.Package No. 2 encompasses a broader scope, labeled Multiple School Additions and Renovations. This package consists of work planned for each of the three elementary buildings, along with Black Hawk Middle School and Warrenton High School. In recent weeks, the project team continues to meet with school district administration to fine-tune building design aspects. The construction document phase of the project has begun and will continue through the fall, as bids are reviewed for approval.Chandler said the district is beginning to see more clear target dates for construction groundbreaking and completion.“We have a more streamlined sense of what the time line is looking like for when we are going to bid and issue contracts,” he said. “It looks like we would approve bid specs in November, issue contracts in December and begin actual construction after Christmas break.”The initial work will begin on the multipurpose addition to the high school. All other projects are slated to begin construction by May 30.Renovation work may be completed on nonschool session days as agreed to by the school district.Chandler says the district has a goal of completing every aspect of the project before the by July 28, minus the multipurpose addition. That facility has a target completion date of around Oct. 31, 2017.The subtotal of construction estimates — base bid projects and by owner work only — is projected to be around $8,417,200.00.Bond Project
