Record Staff WriterHeading into the 2015-16 fiscal year, Warren County R-III School District officials are pleased with where the district sits financially. The board adopted a $43,782,050 budget for new fiscal year, which began July 1.That is an increase over $43,532,817.18 from the previous year.“We’re comfortable with where we’re at and where we’re headed,” said Superintendent Dr. Jim Chandler. “We make sure we budget conservatively and manage effectively. We were pleased with where things came in at the end of the year.”The district’s projected revenue for the fiscal year is $34,474,099, compared to $32,978,218 from 2014-15.Director of Finance Tony Chance says their was a major adjustment that impacted the budget near the end of last fiscal year.“One of the significant ones was that we had a refunding bond that was worth $10 million,” said Chance. The general operating expense and teachers’ fund segment of the budget is $18,162,093. That does not include capital spending and debt service. The district did see a rise in teacher salaries over $16,333,159 from last year, with the addition of a second assistant superintendent position and an on-site behavior specialist.Chandler says the district’s primary expenses going forward involve keeping the current facilities up to date.“The biggest impact we’re facing is trying to maintain the buildings,” said Chandler. “We have to work on roofs and do asphalting to provide necessary upkeep for our older buildings. This also involves heating and cooling systems.”Chance added that the current project taking place involves improving the structural support to the walls at Daniel Boone Elementary.R-III School District
