The Wright City R-II School District plans to have representatives at the next Wright City Board of Aldermen meeting after city aldermen raised concerns last month about how the district will handle traffic on Roelker Road when a new high school is built.
School District Superintendent Chris Berger confirmed the school board will wait until after the July 14 city meeting before deciding if changes need to be made to the district’s plan. Berger anticipates district and project representatives will be able to answer any questions city elected officials have on the project.
Berger said the district will react to how the city plans to move forward after the meeting later this month. The next school board meeting is scheduled for July 21.
City leaders unanimously believe turn lanes will eventually be needed at the site of the new high school. They could not agree last month whether that should be an initial condition of construction or a requirement for a future date.
The new high school will be located on the south side of Wright City, between Roelker Road and Highway F. The plan is for the school to initially be accessed from multiple entries on Roelker Road, with an additional access from Highway F to be added at an undetermined date. The district needs to receive a special permit from the city government to build and operate at the site.
