Record Staff WriterThe audit results from the 2014-15 fiscal year produced the best possible rating for the Wright City R-II School District.Joe Leathers, a certified public accountant based in Cuba, presented an overview of the audit conducted by his office during the board’s monthly meeting Dec. 17. He announced that his firm issued the district an “unmodified opinion,” which is the best of three possible options.“In my opinion, the district’s budgetary and disbursement procedures were in compliance with the budgetary statute,” said Leathers. The audit was conducted in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) of the United States.“It was a clean audit and we are extremely proud of the results,” said Superintendent David Buck.Leathers had no suggestions for changes or critiques concerning the district’s financial practices.“We have a very transparent and thorough system and are extremely proud that we continue to have such clean audits and healthy balances,” said Buck.Leathers reported the results of the audit, which covers the district’s financial statements and accounting-related practices, to the district Nov. 16.“The results of my audit procedures disclosed no instances of noncompliance,” he said.“In January, we will once again have our S&P bond rating done,” added Buck. “This fall, we had fantastic bond ratings, and we look forward to the same this January. That is in part due to a great audit.”Buck said he anticipates the district’s financial management practices will continue to improve, beyond the beneficial moves that have already been recently made.“We have saved over $1.3 million in interest on our debts for the middle school, East Elementary and the renovations to the athletic fields and air conditioning,” he said. “We look to save a little more with refinancing a portion of a bond in January.”The board voted unanimously to accept the audit as presented.R-II School District
