R-II continues to make gains in performance

The Wright City R-II School District continues to make gains in its performance, as indicated by the latest ratings released by the state last week.

R-II tied its highest score ever, receiving a 96.4 percent. This is the fourth consecutive year Wright City has scored 96 percent or above.

“A lot of credit goes to our kids, faculty, staff and community for sustaining excellence,” said Superintendent Dr. David Buck. “Wildcat nation has much to be proud of.”

Putting the accomplishment in perspective, of the 29 school districts that border Interstate 70 across the state, only six have scored a 90 percent or higher the past five years. Wright City is well above that mark.

The MSIP or Missouri Standard Improvement Program, is comprised of five grading areas. The scores reflect the district’s performance in the previous year, in this case 2016-17.

“Our middle school scores have been on the rise the last three years,” said Buck. “We tip our hat to their collective work, as they join the improvements previously seen at the high school and elementary levels.”

R-II scored the highest possible in two categories. Wright City was awarded all 30 available points in the area of college and career readiness and also received all 30 possible points for graduation rate.

In the area of attendance, R-II earned 7.5 of the 10 available points.

“While our attendance this decade is significantly higher than the previous decade, it is still an area of improvement for us and the county in general,” said Buck.

For academic achievement, combining the core and subgroups, Wright City received a 96.4 percent, earning 67.5 out of the possible 70 points.

Across all areas, R-II totaled 135 of the possible 140 points.

Buck said some of the tests that are included have been altered.

“All but four tests at the high school no longer count, so this is based on a smaller number of tests this year, and they (the state) did not use Algebra I scores due to some test anomalies,” said Buck.

The state average for all schools in Missouri was 89.6 percent, putting Wright City significantly above the mark.

“I congratulate all of our kids on their achievements, and I can’t wait to see what they do this year,” said Buck.
