The Wright City R-II School District awarded the contract for renovations to the high school to Martin General Contracting. The decision was approved during the monthly board meeting April 19 on a 5-0 vote, with members Heidi Box and Erin Williams absent. The bid by Martin of $150,000 came in just under that of Demien Construction, which bid $150,900 for the project. The contract included three alternate bid options.“Martin was the low bid contractor after totaling the selected items,” R-II Superintendent David Buck said. “The company has worked with the district previously and has done quality work for all involved.”Ultimately, the district decided to move forward with snow retention, replacing the exterior soffits and renovations to the locker rooms, coaches office and storage rooms. Also included was painting for the underside of the exterior entrance canopy.A separate contract for replacing all 25 soffit lights — 11 of which are inoperable — was awarded to Martin on a bid of $14,250.Originally, it was considered than an awning with a concrete sidewalk might be constructed alongside the main entrance to the gymnasium. “The awning was not part of the five-year facility plan but was something that we wanted to explore if the cost of all the work plus the awning was such that we could add it in for the budgeted amount,” Buck said.“However, the awning was not selected due to the high cost of providing a maintenance-free canopy, along with the required concrete footing. It is a convenience item that we were interested in, but not a necessary item and thus we opted to not go forward and thus stay within our budget.”Wright City R-II School District
