Puppy Yoga Event Brings Community Together, Supports Local Rescue

Laughter, downward dogs, and a wriggling bundle of Chihuahua puppies filled Yoga for You Warrenton on Thursday, Dec. 4, as the studio hosted a special Puppy Yoga fundraiser benefiting No Time To Spare Animal Rescue & Sanctuary.

The idea was born from a simple conversation. Jody Kennedy, owner of Yoga for You, recently adopted a dog named Letty from the rescue. During the adoption process, she mentioned she owned a local yoga studio, sparking a collaboration that quickly turned into a community-supported event.

“We put our heads together and said, you know, we should try puppy yoga,” said Sue Stites, Community Relations volunteer for No Time To Spare. “Jody was all in, and we were very fortunate to have a group of Chihuahua puppies we could bring today. She has been so kind to donate all the proceeds from today to No Time To Spare.”

Each session hosted about eight participants, all making donations to the rescue. Volunteers from neighboring business Therapiro also contributed, providing elderberry tea and refreshments for guests, a gesture Stites said added to the sense of community partnership.

No Time To Spare Animal Rescue & Sanctuary (NTTSARS), located in Warrenton, is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter run fully by volunteers. The organization has operated in Warrenton for about 10 years and expects to adopt out around 400 dogs this year. On an average day, the shelter cares for roughly 50 dogs and puppies, including surrenders, strays, and purebred dogs from breeders who can no longer keep them.

“We really depend on the generosity of the community,” Stites said. “This has been an amazing event for us.”

Stites emphasized that involvement from youth groups, schools, and community clubs plays a vital role in supporting their mission. Volunteers come from organizations such as 4-H and FFA, and the shelter also operates a pet pantry to help families keep their pets during financial hardship.

“It’s a completely volunteer-run shelter,” she added. “I started off saying I would volunteer to walk dogs  and then I found myself on puppy duty, and eventually working on fundraising. Once we get you in, we always laugh, it’s like the mafia: we keep you.”

The rescue’s next major fundraiser will be its annual Trivia Night on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Trigg Banquet Center in O’Fallon. The event is a crucial source of revenue for the organization.

  • Doors open: 6:30 p.m.

  • Games begin: 7:00 p.m.

  • Cost: $240 per table of eight, or $30 for individual players

  • Sponsorship opportunities: $100–$1,000

  • Proceeds benefit the rescue and its mission

“With more than 23,000 followers on Facebook, we make sure our sponsors receive support in return,” Stites shared.

No Time To Spare is also planning its annual Andrew Car Show on June 20 in Wright City, where proceeds will again support the rescue’s operations.
