Public hearing for Rural King site plan March 7

The Warrenton Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing March 7 to discuss a site plan for a future Rural King Farm and Home Store.Rural King is planned to be the anchor store for the revitalization of the former outlet mall in Warrenton. The retailer announced in March 2018 that it would be finalizing plans to build a new store from the ground up next to the existing mall. At the time, Rural King officials said they hope to have the store open in fall 2019.The previous announcement predicted the Rural King store in Warrenton would be 85,000 square feet, making it one of the largest retail stores in the city. The possibility of bringing Rural King to the city was one of the selling points for a second interchange in Warrenton just west of the mall, paid for by two half-cent sales taxes approved by voters in 2016. City officials intend the interchange to provide better access to the mall and future development in the area. The city of Warrenton also agreed last year to the use of up to $5 million in tax increment financing (TIF) from an existing mall redevelopment plan to assist with the cost of building the new Rural King store.TIF is a system in which the developer will front the costs for the project, then receive reimbursement for some of those costs out of tax revenue generated at Rural King and other new stores at the mall.Rural King sign
