They may be protesting in the streets of major cities over the election of Donald Trump, but President Barack Obama is setting a good example by turning down his volume of disappointment and in effect saying give the man a chance.President Obama said Trump would do his best to unite the nation and that he is pragmatic. There were these words of wisdom from the president: “He has won. He’s going to be the next president, and regardless of what experience or assumptions he brought to this office, this office has a way of waking you up.”The president added: “And some of his gifts that obviously allowed him to execute one of the biggest political upsets in history, those are the ones that hopefully he will put to good use on behalf of the American people.”President Obama has refused to criticize Trump since the election. He has set an outstanding example for Hillary Clinton’s supporters, especially the protesters. He has shown a degree of class that is presidential.Voters should know by now that promises made during a campaign can’t all be fulfilled. President Obama knows that. No candidate for president ever made more promises than Obama. He wasn’t able to deliver on many of them. Trump will not be able to deliver on many of his promises also. It is the nature of government and politics that prevents being able to deliver. Those Americans protesting the election results lack knowledge of American history. We have to accept the results of elections to determine who holds public office. The more forceful words are, “Get over it. Grow up!” Crying about Hillary’s defeat isn’t going to change the outcome of the election. Older Americans have been through this before. They may not have liked the results of many elections, but they accept them. And, they remember, there always will be other elections in the future.
