Frustrated with his team’s inexplicable woes, Chad Berrey recounted the numerous mistakes that doomed Post 122 Senior Legion on Monday.Warrenton fell 6-3 against Daniel Boone, remaining winless on the season.“They gave us a game on a silver platter, and we gave it right back to them,” lamented Berrey. He wasn’t necessarily referring to a gifted win, but rather the chance to compete closely after Central had its own share of mishaps.Scoreless through three innings, the game appeared manageable for Post 122.But Central pushed across four runs in the bottom of the fourth with very little work required. Recording just two hits during that stretch, it instead advanced the base paths by stealing and on errors.“The guys aren’t coming ready to play, and that’s why we haven’t won a game,” said Berrey. “We have too many mental mistakes to even consider winning.”Warrenton countered in the fifth inning, with Trevor Bradshaw, Kenny Dildine and Corey Eckenfels each scoring after reaching on consecutive walks. Garrett Capstick collected a single during that stretch to push through a run.Post 122’s limited fire at the plate wasn’t enough to lift the pressure from its pitchers.“We only had a handful of hits, and you can’t win a game like that,” said Berrey.Jakob Junker collected a double, while Jacob Abel and Dildine each had singles.Junker started on the mound, striking out four batters, before handing over duties to Bradshaw. He tossed an inning, before Paul Inman came in to close.“Junker and Trevor threw awesome,” said Berrey. “They’re going to pitch to contact. So, if the batters put the ball into play, we’ve got to focus on defense and make the plays, but we didn’t do that.”Berrey says there is really no explanation for Warrenton’s continuous struggles.“We weren’t playing heads up baseball tonight,” said Berrey.”Half of these guys play varsity, so they know how to play. It all comes down to whether or not they want to play.” Post 122’s opportunities for a victory are dwindling.“We’re trying to get some wins so we don’t go winless for the season,” said Berrey.
