Post 122 Junior’s offense shows some life

By Tim SchmidtRecord Managing EditorThrough its first four games, the Warrenton Post 122 Junior Legion baseball team’s offense went missing.The past two games it finally showed some life.Alex Vogt drove in the winning run in a 6-5 walk-off victory over West Tuesday night. Two days earlier, Post 122 jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 6-4 triumph over Wentzville.The two victories snapped a four-game losing skid and improved Warrenton’s record to 2-4 on the season.Post 122 had been outscored 48-6 over the first four games, including three games decided by the 10-run mercy rule.In Tuesday night’s game, Matt Dildine reached on an error and eventually moved into scoring position. Vogt then followed with a fielder’s choice that scored the game-winner.It was a strong finish for Warrenton after West rallied with five runs in the top half of the sixth to tie the game.Dalton Owenby pitched a complete game to pick up the win for Post 122. Of the five runs scored against him, only two were earned. He held West to four hits and struck out eight.Chris Vogt and Dildine led Warrenton, which scored a run in both of the first two innings, with two hits apiece. Dildine also had two RBIs, with Brendan Hazel and Charlie Gerard each knocking in a run. James Schnyder reached twice on two walks.In Sunday’s victory, Chris Garrett recorded the final out of the game on a strikeout to preserve Warrenton’s 6-4 win.Garrett had entered in relief of starting pitcher Chris Vogt, who threw the first 6 2/3 innings. Vogt gave up six hits, while striking out seven and walking five.Garrett also had a nice game at the plate. He collected two hits and reached base three times for Post 122, which used a two-run second to grab a 2-1 lead and added two more runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.Alex Vogt and Devon Oden also recorded two RBIs. Vogt’s two-run single in the fourth allowed Brandon Longacre and Dildine to both score. Braden Lawson also reached twice on two walks for Post 122.Warrenton is in the midst of a busy slate of games, playing six of seven days this week. Post 122 is scheduled to play at New Haven Friday and returns home Saturday for a 1 p.m. start against St. Clair.Timely hitsGoogle.
