Jeff Porter has announced his candidacy for state representative, 42nd District.Candidate filing for the Aug. 7 primary election is open until March 27.Porter is running to replace Rep. Bart Korman, who can no longer seek re-election due to term-limits.The primary will determine who runs for office in the general election Nov. 6.The 42nd District is compromised of Montgomery County and includes a major part of Warren and a portion of St. Charles counties.Porter is a lifelong resident of Missouri. He was raised on a farm in northeast Missouri near Shelbina. While attending South Shelby High School, he was involved in various activities including FFA and sports.He earned his State Farmer Degree and was president of his local FFA chapter.Porter obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics and agronomy from the University of Missouri-Columbia. While studying in college, he also was a teaching assistant in the Agricultural Economics Department and was selected for the John Brown Scholar Program.Professionally, Porter has held various loan and investment representative positions throughout the state. In 1991, he moved to Montgomery City where he owns and operates his own insurance agency.He is actively involved within the community and past president of the local Kiwanis Club and past secretary of the Montgomery City Chamber of Commerce.Porter has served as the mayor of Montgomery City for the past 15 years. Additionally, he served on the executive board of the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission and took an active role in the successful bipartisan county efforts to prevent tolling of Interstate 70.“I am excited about the opportunity to represent all the constituents of the 42nd District,” he said. “My broad background in agriculture, financial institutions, insurance and local governments afford me a unique advantage to serve the constituents at the state level with great vision, judgment and a commonsense approach.”Porter is a member of the local Knights of Columbus, Council 2044 where he has served in numerous officer positions, has attained the level of Fourth Degree Sir Knight, and is a member of the Honor Guard.Porter has been married to his wife, Julie, for 33 years. Julie is a teacher in Montgomery City. In the early ’90s, she taught three years at Holy Rosary in Warrenton. They have two grown children, Andy and Molly.
