A Wright City man has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia stemming from an incident last year when he allegedly impersonated his own son after being caught selling drugs at a Warrenton gas station.

The charges were filed Friday, Oct. 9, against Marcus D. Wray in connection with an incident nearly a year ago. Shortly after 9 p.m. Oct. 24, 2025, Warrenton police were dispatched to the Phillips 66 station at 1010 N. Highway 47 in response to a report of a suspicious male selling drugs.

When police arrived, Wray “left his spot and retreated further into the business,” and upon being detained, “identified himself as a male born in 2009,” according to a probable cause statement. “The suspect was clearly 40 years old.”

Wray eventually admitted to attempting to use his son’s identification information, according to the statement, due to Wray having an active arrest warrant.

A search additionally revealed narcotics and glass pipes with burnt residue on them, which Wray admitted was methamphetamine and methamphetamine residue, according to the probable cause statement.

An initial court appearance for Wray, born in 1979, has been scheduled for Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. in Warren County Circuit Court.
