Police in Wright City seized approximately three pounds of marijuana last week following an early morning traffic stop on Interstate 70, according to Chief Doug Saulters. An officer on patrol on I-70 noticed an eastbound vehicle which had expired Virgina license plates about 1:50 a.m. Monday, May 20, Saulters stated.. A second patrolman arrived on the scene, and while talking to the driver, police reportedly noticed "a suspicious odor of marijuana emanating from the car," Saulters told The Record. The Wright City K-9 unit walked around the outside of the vehicle and the department's drug dog alerted the officers to the car's trunk, Saulters said. "It was a large quantity," Saulters remarked. The driver admitted he was transporting marijuana, telling police he was traveling from California to Virginia. The motorist was arrested and taken to the Warren County Jail pending the application of warrants, Saulters said. The suspect's name was not released by authorities, pending the issuance of formal charges. Marijuana Plant File Photo
