Wright City police have arrested a man they say fled in a stolen vehicle at high speed on Interstate 70.

Deandre M. Brooks, 36, Warrenton, is charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest for a felony and felony drug possession after the Oct. 11 chase that exceeded speeds of 100 mph.

Brooks is being held at the Warren County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond, and could be facing several years in prison if he is convicted.

Around 11 p.m. that Wednesday, Wright City police received a call informing them of a possible stolen vehicle, described as a black Kia SUV, according to a police report. A matching vehicle was later observed driving east on I-70 near the Wildcat Drive exit.

A check on the license plate revealed that the plates belonged to a Cadillac, authorities said. Police signaled for the SUV to pull over east of Wright City, and at first it did.

Then, after allowing a woman to exit the vehicle, the driver reportedly sped away and led officers on a chase all the way to Lake St. Louis.

After traveling to the area of Prospect Road, the driver, later identified as Brooks, stopped and fled on foot, before being apprehended after a short pursuit, police said.

A check of the vehicle’s identification number confirmed that it was stolen out of Warrenton, according to the report.

Police searching the vehicle reportedly located a glass smoking device with residue that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Brooks has an arraignment scheduled for Oct. 25 at the Warren County Circuit Court.
