Police injury leads to criminal charge

An East St. Louis man arrested in Warren County is charged with causing injury to a Warrenton police officer.Police said Corey Hemphill, 30, came into contact with officers during a call for a domestic disturbance March 18 at the 700 block of Ashland Road. A resident there told police Hemphill was inside and refused to leave.According to an arrest report, two officers gave Hemphill numerous orders to leave the residence and attempted to arrest him when he didn’t comply.Hemphill allegedly resisted attempts to place his hands behind his back. During the struggle with officer, Hemphill reportedly rolled and pinned an officer’s arm under his body, causing a disabling injury.The officer was taken to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a torn tricep muscle, according to the arrest report.Hemphill is now charged with second-degree assault against a special victim, a class B felony. He is in custody at the Warren County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond. He had an arraignment scheduled for March 28 in Warren County Circuit Court.
