A Warrenton man with a criminal history who boldly robbed a BP station in his hometown Wednesday was arrested Thursday after police were able to identify him from a surveillance video.Joseph R. Preis, 31, of the 400 block of Pershing Drive has been charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.According to court documents, an employee at the BP station at 714 N. Highway 47 reported a white male came into the business, threw two plastic bags on the counter and pulled out a black revolver hand gun demanding all the money in the cash register.The employee told police Preis then asked for cigarettes.After robbing the store, the clerk said Preis left northbound on Highway 47 in a white ford truck with lettering on the side, racks in the back and a back license plate cover with an eagle on it.Police said Preis made off with $333.57 in cash and merchandise.During the investigation, police viewed a video surveillance tape that showed Preis approaching the counter, tossing plastic bags to the clerk, and reaching to his left side for a revolver.In the video, police said Preis points the gun at the clerk, then lays it on the counter and opens one of the plastic bags.The clerk is seen placing cash from the register into the plastic bag.Preis then puts the gun away on his right side, points toward the cigarette shelf, and the clerk is observed placing several cigarette packs on the counter.Two Warrenton police positively identified Preis, who recently bonded out after being arrested and charged with domestic assault.Warrenton police, upon receiving information on Preis' whereabouts, went to a home in the 1000 block of Frick Avenue where they arrested him.During the arrest, police were able to locate a .22 revolver that matched the one seen in the surveillance video.Preis is being held as of Friday in the Warren County Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
