Police HQ gets facelift after pipe burst

By Chris OrletRecord Managing EditorThe Wright City Police headquarters will get new flooring, drywall, and a new paint job, officials say. A Jan. 6 water pipe burst necessitated the repairs.Mayor Dave Heiliger said the police department thought about moving headquarters temporarily to the Church of the Nazarene in Wright City, but after evaluating the damage opted to stay put.“Service Master was here and got things dried out pretty quick,” Heiliger said.Last week city officials announced that they would begin the bidding process for the repair work. AA Painting has offered to donate 10 gallons of paint, Heiliger said.Heiliger said the city still does not have an estimated cost of the damage done.Alderman Jim Schuchman was one of the first to respond when the pipes burst.Schuchman said he had trouble locating the shutoff valve. “I finally found it behind some wet insulation,” he said.It took over an hour to get the leak stopped, said city Treasurer Karen Girando.Girando said the pipe burst in the detective’s office in an interior wall. The water also damaged a part of the front office and bathroom.Girando said the police department had to move things around for a couple of weeks, but the damage did not affect police services. The city staff was asked earlier this month to come up with a diagram of where shutoffs are in the case of emergency.Police HQ gets facelift after pipe burst
