Record Managing EditorTwo men responsible for committing dozens of burglaries in a five-county area, including in Warren County, are now in custody. The suspects are believed to have stolen more than $80,000 in firearms, electronics, jewelry, hunting equipment and vehicles since July, according to a St. Charles County Police Department press release. The men, identified as 35-year-old Kevin Chandler, of the 2000 block of Southmoor Drive in Foristell, and 38-year-old Gary Moore, of St. Louis, were arrested this week. They were charged Monday in St. Charles County with two felony counts for both second-degree burglary and stealing of a firearm. They are being held in the St. Charles County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond.An investigation is ongoing by the Warren County Sheriff's Department and other law enforcement agencies where Chandler and Moore are accused of committing similar crimes.Sheriff Kevin Harrison said detectives interviewed the suspects this week and additional criminal charges will be sought against both men.Besides Warren and St. Charles counties, the suspects targeted homes and businesses in St. Louis city and county, Lincoln County and Jefferson County, authorities said."Interrupting this crime ring restores a sense of security for many victims and the community at large," explained Capt. David Kaiser, commander for SCCPD's Bureau of Ciminal Investigations, in the release."The suspects involved in this case had an extensive criminal history, including crimes of violence."Homes in the area that were burglarized were primarily located in southeastern Warren County, such as Highway 94, Routes O and TT, and southwestern St. Charles County. At least six homes were burglarized in Warren County, according to Harrison."They were stealing to fuel a drug addiction," he said. The suspects would approach property owners asking to perform gutter inspections to see if anyone was home. If the home was unoccupied at that time, they would gain entry and fill a pillowcase with items that could be sold for cash," Harrison said."If nobody was there, they would kick the door and go in," he remarked.Harrison noted that the suspects were identified thanks to tips from property owners noticing suspicious vehicles in the area."This is neighbors being observant and giving us the vehicle information," he said. "It was spot on."
