Authorities seized 5 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value worth approximately $272,000 in the parking lot of the Warrenton Walmart Wednesday.
The drug bust was described as one of the largest to date in Warren County, Sheriff Kevin Harrison said.
A Pleasant Valley man, identified as 32-year-old Samuel H. Coleman, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree drug trafficking. He is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation by the East Central Drug Task Force and its member agencies, according to Harrison. Investigators were conducting surveillance in the area of Walmart due to information that a drug courier was going to stop in the area for a delivery.
Police said the suspect was acting suspicious and Warrenton police officers initiated contact. The Warren County Sheriff's Department's K-9 team, consisting of deputy Ed McCormick and dog Bronto, located five bags hidden in a speaker box in the rear of Coleman's vehicle. Each of the bags weighed approximately a pound each, police said.
