By Tim Schmidt Record Managing Editor The schedule for this weekend’s Festival of Fun is packed full of activities. And organizers are inviting the public to take advantage of the many attractions available at the two-day event. The Festival of Fun will be held this Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8, at the Warren County Fairgrounds, located on North Highway 47 in Warrenton. The event will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. This is the second year the Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event, following its 90th-year celebration a year ago. Attendees will notice a few slight changes this year, said Chamber Executive Director Jan Olearnick. The beer and wine garden is out and some new activities, including a flea market on Sunday, have been added. “We really needed to gear it toward families,” Olearnick said. “We scaled it back to where families could come and spend the whole day and see a lot of fun stuff.” The lineup on both days will include a home and garden show, craft show, a quilt show, petting zoo, antique tractor display, and a Missouri Trappers Association display. Musical entertainment will begin at 3 p.m. both days. Local bands will play and Olearnick added any interested bands can still perform by contacting the Chamber office. A Kids’ Korner section will be open both days and feature an assortment of carnival games, a bounce house and contests. Some performances geared for the youth include a magician, mad scientist and reptile experience. Tickets must be purchased for the carnival games, Olearnick said. The Kids’ Korner was very popular last year, she said. “The kids loved it — there is a lot of cool stuff,” she said. “The carnival games are good, too. The kids will walk away with some pretty cool stuff.” A Little Mr. and Little Miss competition will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. The contest is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 6 who are Warren County residents. Contestants will be judged based on their appearance, personality, on-stage question and talent presentation. The cost to enter is $25. A Little Mr. and Little Miss Photogenic contest also will be held. The entry fee is an additional $10. Also on Saturday, Mercy Children’s Hospital will be giving away free bicycle helmets and fitting them for children from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. A number of exhibitors and food vendors also will be in attendance. In addition, a 5K run/walk will be held in downtown Warrenton to kick off the event June 7. The race will start at 8 a.m., with race day registration from 7-7:45 a.m. The entry fee is $25. Olearnick said she is looking forward to the weekend. “It’s a huge community weekend,” she said. “If there are groups that want to get involved, they can contact me. It’s never too late. I am really excited about it.” For more information, people should contact the Chamber office at 636-456-2530 or visit www.warrentoncoc.com.
