Plant sale to be held Saturday at Schowengerdt home

Spring is bursting into bloom just in time for the fifth annual “Plants for Mom Sale” sponsored by plant enthusiasts interested in care and maintenance of the historic Ernst Schowengerdt Gardens in Warrenton. This pre-Mother’s Day plant sale scheduled for Saturday morning, May 9, promises to be a great place to select that special gift for Mom! The sale is a joint effort of the Warrenton Garden Club, and the volunteer gardeners at the Ernst Schowengerdt National Historic Place in Warrenton. This will be a perfect chance to take advantage of bargain prices on a wide selection of perennials, annuals and garden related items.Because of the tender care of volunteer gardeners who have worked with the Schowengerdt flowers for the Warren County Historical Society since 2003, the group now has a selection of plants grown on the site which will be offered for sale! These specimens will be only a small part of the large selection available at the plant sale.A huge selection of plants is also coming in from the well-stocked, personal flower gardens belonging to members of the participating groups. Plant donations from other individuals who would like to help support the Warren County Historical Society’s care of the Schowengerdt Flower Gardens are always welcome as well. This is the perfect time of the year to thin our extra plants and donate them to benefit a community fundraiser. The sale will be held on the lawn of the Schowengerdt House, 308 East Booneslick Road (also called Main Street) in Warrenton. Sales will begin at 8 a.m. and will continue until 1 p.m.For more information, or to arrange to donate plants to this community-wide project, contact Roxie Schroeder at 636-932-4607 or 636-359-0089.
