Strassenbash is once again a one-day affair, but organizers say the shorter schedule hasn’t slowed down the list of activities awaiting festivalgoers.
This year’s annual festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, at Diekroeger Park in Wright City, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. All of the activities are free, organizers pointed out, as donations from businesses and supporters cover all of the expenses.
“It is a great opportunity to meet people in our community and just come and enjoy the day with us,” Mayor Michelle Heiliger said.
The day kicks off with the annual parade, sponsored by the Heiliger Foundation. Lineup begins at 10 a.m. with the parade stepping off at 11 a.m.. This year’s theme is “Viva Las Vegas,” and cash prizes will be awarded for the best floats: $250 for first place, $150 for second, and $100 for third. Registration is not required. Side-by-sides and AATVS are welcome.
Music will fill the air throughout the day, highlighted by Dawgs in the Smokehouse presented by the Warren County Fine Arts Council and capped off by a headline performance from Nash Vegas on the main stage Saturday night. Mickey Scott will also perform during the festivities.
Competitions include a cornhole tournament and a Saturday night poker tournament sponsored by Alderman Ramiz Hakim.
Families will find plenty to enjoy, with bounce houses, face painting, balloon and caricature artists, magician Jeff Lefton and a children’s corner stocked with yard games, bubbles and sidewalk chalk. The Bubble Bus will also make an appearance.
The beer garden will open at noon and is sponsored and staffed by Main Street Real Estate. A number of vendors and food trucks will also be on site, offering a wide variety of food and shopping options.
