For now, anyway, Peter Kinder’s government career is over. He served 24 years in state government, the last 12 as lieutenant governor. Before that he was in the Missouri Senate for 12 years. He may end up in the Trump administration, perhaps in the education or commerce departments. Kinder, 62, is from Cape Girardeau, and he ran for governor in the 2016 Republican primary election that was won by Eric Greitens. Kinder came in third. He is a true conservative.Kinder has a wealth of knowledge about state government. As lieutenant governor he presided over the Senate. He and Democrat Gov. Jay Nixon were not close, and rarely spoke. What duties there are for the lieutenant governor, Kinder worked hard to fulfill them.He was well known around the state. At another time, with voters having a different mood, he may well have been governor.Kinder has much to offer in the way of government service. We hope there is a place for him in the state or federal governments. With Republicans in command in the state and in Washington, D.C., there should be a position for him.
