The Wright City R-II School District bus fleet received a 100 percent on its Missouri State Inspection last month.“One hundred percent is something that every district wants. It states that every bus in the fleet passed inspection without issues,” said Michele Arndt, general manager for Durham School Services, the company that provides bus services for the Wright City School District. The inspection shows that safety tools and driving mechanisms are operating as they should. Each bus that serves the district carries 50 to 70 students, depending on the route. Some students spend an hour on the bus getting between home and school. The physical inspection was performed March 15. Arndt said all 25 buses in the fleet were inspected from brakes to emergency exits and crossing arms.Durham School Services contracts with school districts in Columbia and parts of Illinois.Arndt said, “Durham’s No. 1 focus is: Safety comes first.”Regional Maintenance Manager for Durham School Services Doug Ball and five mechanics on the Durham staff from various locations helped prepare for the safety inspection.“They did the everyday requirements, and they went above and beyond,” Arndt said, adding that everyone in the department contributes when it comes to the safety.Arndt was a bus driver before joining Durham School Services for the Wright City School District. She started in August.“When I came in, I decided we were going to get 100, whatever it took,” she said.School bus
