Record Managing EditorThe second annual “Pennies From Heaven” campaign has been launched. The fundraiser is aimed at turning loose change into thousands of dollars to help feed needy people. Agape and the First Bank branch in Warrenton are partnering once again to raise money to help stock the shelves at the nonprofit’s food pantries.Campaign organizers, First Bank’s Pam Faron and Agape’s Michelle Bernth, are encouraging local residents to donate their change to make a big difference.“We would like to challenge everyone to help change lives in Warren County,” Faron said. The money raised from the campaign goes a long way to help Agape’s clients. The agency operates food pantries in both Warrenton and Wentzville that feed more than 1,200 low-income families and individuals each month, of which 50 percent are children. Agape also provides other services and programs for residents needing assistance. Last year’s “Pennies From Heaven” campaign raised over $5,000.“The goal is to double what we did last year,” Faron said. “We are trying to get out more to the businesses this year. This being the second one, we are focused and getting cups out to everyone.”The school portion of the “Pennies From Heaven” campaign is underway and ends April 30. Each elementary classroom in the Warren County R-III School District is participating. The classroom that collects the largest amount in donations at each school will receive a pizza party and ice cream social, a trophy and piggy banks for all students in the class.Over $800 had been raised in just the first week of the school challenge, according to Faron.“The kids are excited about collecting,” she said. From May 1-June 15, the campaign will be open to all businesses, churches and individuals. For every $25, donors will be entered in a drawing for a free lunch. Donations can also be dropped off at the First Bank branch in Warrenton at 607 N. Highway 47.For more information on the fundraiser, contact Bernth at michelle.b@agapemo.org or at 636-866-8340. Donations can also be dropped off at the First Bank branch in Warrenton at 607 N.
