Peers store to open May 9

Celebrating the Country Store Corridor and the 30th anniversary of the Katy Trail, Peers Store will open weekends beginning Saturday, May 9. Peers Store, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located approximately four miles north of Marthasville at 16011 Concord Hill Road.

Ralph Pfremmer, executive director of Magnificent Missouri, said the organization believes in conservation by story-telling, particularly about the last 100 miles of the Missouri River. The Country Store Corridor is just part of the story and highlights the history of the area between the Treloar Mercantile and Peers Store.

Peers Store will be opened each weekend from noon to 4 p.m. Music will be provided until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Peers Store and Saturday at the Treloar Mercantile. Snacks and beverages are available.

Pfremmer said guided half-day tours will be offered this year, which includes a box lunch at the historic Peers Store with live music, a presentation of the German Heritage Corridor, the MKT Railroad, conservation efforts and the showing of the documentary “Rivertowns: 100 Miles, 200 Years, Countless Stories.” Participants can choose whether to bike to the Treloar Mercantile or take a shuttle during the tour. Artwork, mercantile items and the butterfly pollinator plot are also available to check out.

Other scheduled events include a Prairie Festival from June 13 – July 15; Passport to River Country, beginning June 13; Paddle MO on Sept. 13; and the annual Elevator Party at Treloar Oct. 18.

Pfremmer said he is often at the Peers Store during the week and people are free to stop in. He said he believes that taking advantage of the Katy Trail and activities along the Country Store Corridor are perfect opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors as the state lessens its restrictions due to COVID 19.
