Nine PBS is currently airing a three-part documentary series about the Holocaust, which includes the heroic efforts of a Warrenton Central Wesleyan College alumnus.

The series, which began airing on Jan. 5 and will continue at 8 p.m. on Jan. 12 and Jan. 19, is titled “The U.S. and the Holocaust.” The final installment of this new film by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein features the heroic rescue led by Warrenton Central Wesleyan College’s Carl Lutz of 62,000 Hungarian Jews from deportation to German concentration camps during World War II.

It is considered the largest civilian rescue mission during the Holocaust, accomplished during Lutz’s tenure as a Swiss diplomat who worked tirelessly and creatively to save every life possible.

The Warren County Historical Society has a biography of Lutz available for viewing online at www.warrencountymohistory.com. Lutz is also featured on the People Wall at the historical society’s museum, located at 102 West Walton St. in Warrenton.
