Don Patrick of Louisiana was recognized for his 30 years of successful executive leadership at the not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC), a 12-county area social service, community health and public housing agency headquartered in Bowling Green.Patrick was honored during the NECAC board meeting held on Sept. 22 with a 30th Anniversary Appreciation Award presented by NECAC Chairman of the Board Lyndon Bode of Marion County and Secretary D. Randall Cone of Pike County. The presentation was made on behalf of the full 36-member volunteer NECAC Board of Directors. The board is structured with three representatives from each of the 12 counties in the agency’s service area. Each county is represented by one public elected official, one civic interest representative and one low-income representative.Patrick was originally hired by the board as executive director on Sept. 24, 1985, and started on the job one week later. In 1999, due to the agency’s increased growth, his duties and authority were expanded with a title change to president and chief executive officer. Last March, he signed a professional services employment contract renewal with the board that will keep him on the job through Sept. 30, 2016.Under Patrick’s leadership, NECAC has grown from a budget of $2.5 million in 1985 to its current $27 million. The number of employees has risen from 35 full-time and 12 part-time to its current 95 full-time and more than 200 part-time employees.Since Patrick became the agency executive, NECAC has grown from being the 16th largest in operations of the 19 Missouri agencies to being the largest.
