While it is in the playoffs, the Union Post 297 Junior Legion team doesn’t know where in the bracket it will land.
Warrenton Post 122 (5-5 in district) pushed ahead of Union (12-10, 5-5) Tuesday with a 5-1 victory at Wildcat Ballpark.
Both teams have one district game remaining and both have qualified for the playoffs. If the right circumstances fall into place, each could finish as high as fifth.
In Tuesday’s game, Warrenton established the lead with single runs in the second, third and fourth innings before Union scored its run in the bottom of the fifth.
Warrenton closed out the game with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Dalton Owenby went the distance for Post 122, earning the win. He allowed one run on six hits while striking out six Union batters.
Post 297 relied on Nathan Sieve and he went all seven innings while allowing five runs (two earned) on 10 hits and three walks. He struck out two.
Offensively, Brendan Hazel, Alexander Vogt and Elijah Ecton each had two hits. Vogt and Ecton doubled.
Dylan O’Neal, Kory Schniedermeyer, Braden Lawson and Clayton Schowe singled.
Hazel and Vogt each scored twice. Ecton scored once.
Schniedermeyer, Lawson, Ecton and Schowe drove in runs. Schniedermeyer, Vogt and Lawson walked. Hazel, O’Neal, Schniedermeyer and Ecton stole bases.
Lucas Dowil led Union with two singles.
Jacob Fleming doubled for Union. Avery Morrow, Logan Groff, Andrew Bruner each singled.
Groff scored the run and Dowil drove him in. Groff had a stolen base.
