Update Jan. 21:

The drivers in a fatal crash outside Dutzow have been identified. Lacey L. Burkhart, 24, of Washington, was killed in a head-on collision on Highway TT Monday, Jan. 20, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The highway patrol said Burkhart was northbound on Highway TT in a 2005 Ford Taurus when she failed to negotiate a curve to the right near Woodland Drive. Her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a 2005 Ford F550 driven by Joseph M. Baeher, 35, of Wright City, according to a highway patrol crash report.

Neither driver was wearing a seat belt, the highway patrol said. Burkhart was pronounced dead at the scene. Baeher was not treated for any injuries.

Original story:

One person was killed and another sustained minor injuries in a head-on collision north of Dutzow Monday morning.

Marthasville Fire Assistant Chief Sean Johnson said crews were dispatched at 7:40 a.m. to a crash on Highway TT, involving a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck. Responders were notified that there might be a person trapped in one of the vehicles, and contacted New Melle Fire Protection District for additional support.

Johnson said when responders arrived, they saw that both vehicles had been heavily damaged.

“Unfortunately, at that time the driver of the passenger car was deceased,” Johnson said. “The driver of the pickup truck had minor injuries.”

No other people were involved in the crash. The identities of the two drivers had not been released as of Monday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was contacted to investigate the cause of the crash. During the on-scene investigation, much of Highway TT was closed for over four hours.

Johnson said he is grateful for the assistance of New Melle Fire, which provided coverage in the Marthasville area while a crew remained on Highway TT. He asked for the public’s continued patience and understanding whenever roads are closed due to serious vehicle accidents.
