A Wright City man is charged with assault and resisting arrest after allegedly injuring a police officer while being placed under arrest Nov. 6.Tyler M. Lexa, 22, faces a felony charge of third-degree assault, made more serious because the victim in the case is a police officer. The additional charge of resisting arrest is a misdemeanor.Lexa encountered a police officer the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 6, when he was stopped for a traffic violation, according to a Wright City police report.Residents in the area of Diekroeger Park had called to complain about a vehicle, after which the officer involved observed Lexa driving 15 mph over the speed limit on Northwest Second Street.During the traffic stop, an inquiry to the 911 dispatch center revealed Lexa had an active arrest warrant for a misdemeanor violation. The officer advised Lexa of the warrant and began putting him under arrest. After the officer had placed cuffs on Lexa, the report states Lexa pulled away and began to struggle with the officer. During the scuffle, Lexa allegedly grabbed the officer, knocking him off his feet and falling on top of him. The impact caused the officer to strike his head against the ground.Another officer at the scene at that time used a stun gun on Lexa, who reportedly continued to resist before being detained. The injured officer described nearly falling unconscious and partially losing vision, according to the police report. He reportedly was unable to stand without assistance for a short period of time. The officer was diagnosed with contusions and abrasions on his head and body, and was placed on medical leave for two days, the report states.“He’s doing OK. He’s still a little sore, but the doctor’s office has released him to come back to work,” Wright City Police Chief Matt Eskew said Thursday, Nov. 8.The chief said the officer isn’t expected to suffer any long-term effects.Lexa was taken to the Warren County Jail and released the same day on a $5,000 bond. He had an arraignment set for Nov. 14 in Warren County Circuit Court.
