Austin Nicolas didn’t pitch the greatest game of his life, but it was better than his team needed.
Warrenton Post 122 AAA blitzed St. Clair with 18 runs Sunday afternoon in Wright City en route to an 18-6 win, pushing Post 122 to 6-5 on the season.
Troy Muse and Hunter Russell led the offense with three hits each, and nine of 10 batters reached base on the afternoon.
“It just shows what they can do when we have a full roster,” Post 122 Manager Scott Butler said.
Post 122 got on the board in the bottom of the first after Hunter Capstick drove Russell on a double to center.
The following inning, Muse and Tyler Brittain scored on a James Dotson double to center to open the floodgates.
Post 122 scored two more runs in the second, seven in the fifth and three more in the seventh.
Dotson led the team with five RBIs, and Chris Garrett drove in three.
Russell reached on two triples and scored four times.
Devon Oden and Matt Dildine also reached with base-hits
It was Post 122’s third double-digit win of the season, and Butler hopes it will give the team confidence heading into the final weeks of the season.
“We’ve got four games left (in district play) and we’re at the bottom of the cellar,” Butler said. “But if we get in, I think we’ll be a force to be reckoned with. We’re playing the right kind of baseball right now, and that’s what you want to do. Obviously you want to have a good seed, but you know if you’re playing good ball, you can go far.”
