By Derrick ForsytheRecord Staff WriterHaving fully recovered from an elbow injury to salvage his prep career, Adam North is eager to take his baseball talent to the next level. The Wright City senior recently signed a letter of intent to play for Greenville College, a Division III school in Illinois.“It’s always been a desire of mine to play in college, ever since I started playing baseball,” said North, who was the Wildcats’ second most used pitcher this season.“Adam has good control and willingness to learn the game that will help him as well,” said Coach Shannon Wells. “He’s a smart player. As a contact pitcher, if he has a good defense behind him, he will do well.”North made nine appearances this season, going 5-1 as a starter. The lefty sported a 2.38 ERA through 35 innings, striking out 22 and walking six. He allowed 40 hits and 12 earned runs.“I don’t have the speed so my off-speed stuff is usually what gets me through games,” said North. “I usually try to keep batters off balance and outsmart them.”At the plate, he batted .250 with 11 hits and eight RBIs with 12 runs scored. After sustaining the injury during the fall of 2012, he missed his entire sophomore season. North opted to have Tommy John surgery, which turned out to be a complete success.“I felt like I came back really strong and I’ve regained all of my strength and have my arsenal back again,” said North. He considered other schools but ultimately settled on Greenville, which came with convincing recommendations from former teammate Austin Marsh.“I knew that Austin went there, and that’s how I first heard about it,” said North. “My first interest was Rolla,” said North. “They showed a little interest, but it didn’t seem like it was going to work out.”It didn’t take long for him to realize Greenville was the best fit, and the interest was mutual from the coaching staff.“I went for a visit there and decided I really liked it,” said North. “They came to watch me pitch and decided they liked me, so that’s when I made my choice to go there.”He will be joining a Panthers team that finished 21-21 this season.“I’m excited about seeing if I can succeed in pitching against the more difficult hitters and prove to myself that I can do it,” said North.“Adam will do well at the next level,” added Wells. “Soft-tossing lefties can usually find a place in the lineup.”He plans to study pre-med, before attending medical school to become a radiologist.College signingDerrick Forsythe photo.
