Record Managing EditorFor $20, a family of four can enjoy the a traditional Thanksgiving meal that so many enjoy.Organizers of the fourth annual Warren County No Hunger Holiday are seeking support from the community to feed approximately 575 families this year. The program ensures families have a complete Thanksgiving meal that they can make in their homes.A year ago, 450 families received meals. That is triple the amount that was distributed when the program was first started in Warren County in 2012.“Every year we keep getting bigger,” said Tony Vacek, a Warrenton Knights of Columbus member who organizes the local effort.A turkey drive is underway and donations can be dropped off at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Friday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. Turkeys will be accepted outside Holy Rosary Church on Saturday, Nov. 21, between 4:30-5:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 22, from 7:30 a.m.-noon.Monetary donations also are being accepted to help defer the cost of the program. Vacek noted that the money is used to purchase food from local businesses.Donations can be mailed to Knights of Columbus 2341 in care of Tony Vacek, 700 South St., Warrenton, MO 63383.Other churches and organizations have indicted they will support the local effort this year. At last week’s Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce meeting, approximately $300 and one turkey were donated.A box full of items that are normally needed for a Thanksgiving dinner are assembled with the donations. The dinners include a turkey, potatoes, stuffing, green beans, corn and cranberries. Vouchers for milk and butter are also provided.“It is everything you will need,” Vacek said. “The support has been great. Every year my donations grow.”Volunteers are also needed to pack the meal boxes on Tuesday, Nov. 24, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall.“Volunteers are always welcome,” Vacek said.Agencies that identify families in need, such as Agape and St. Vincent de Paul, distribute the meals for the program. The No Hunger Holiday program was started by Knights of Columbus members in Harvester, located in St. Charles County, more than 20 years ago, As more and more low-income families were identified, the program expanded into neighboring counties. This year over 2,700 families in St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties are expected to be served. For more information about the No Hunger Holiday, Vacek can be reached at the Knights of Columbus at 636-456-4552.No Hunger Holiday
